Great Britain and Northern Ireland squad for the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships have been announced

Eight athletes have been chosen to compete for their country in the long trail race at the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships.

Several trail runners have been chosen to represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2023 World Mountain and Trail Running Championships in Innsbruck-Stubia, Austria, from June 6 to 10, 2023. Eight athletes have been chosen to compete for their country in the long trail race. While four athletes have been pre-selected to compete in the short trail race. The remaining members of the squad will be announced in May.

For the first time since competing in the IAU Ultra Trail Championships in Portugal in 2019. Jasmin Paris will represent Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the women’s competition (coach: Damien Hall, club: Carnethy HRC). She recently became only the second woman in history to finish all four loops of the Barkley Marathon, a 100-mile race in the United States, so she will enter the race in good shape.

Meryl Cooper (David Roche, Deeside Runners), who competed for the nation at the World Championships in Thailand last November and placed 34th, will be her teammate. Both Fiona Pascall (Martin Cox) and Julia Davis (Robbie Britton, Newquay RR) will be making their international debuts for Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Harry Jones (Martin Cox, Mynydd Du), a GB competitor in the men’s race. George Foster (Martin Cox, Matlock), who competed in Chiang Mai and set a course record to win the Trans Gran Canaria advanced race (85 km / 4 500 m) in February, will be joining him. The men’s quartet is completed by self-coaches Thomas Joly De Lotbiniere and Owen Davies, who both make their first team appearances. At the Trans Gran Canaria race, the pair came in third and fourth, respectively.

The Policy

According to policy, competitors who placed in the top ten of the short trail race at the 2022 World Mountain and Trail Running Championship are automatically selected. Consequently, world bronze medalists Sharon Taylor (Helm Hill), Jon Albon and Kristian Jones (Swansea), Elsey Davis (self-coached, Preston), and. After the Trial race, which is the Three Peaks race, later this month, the remaining members of the short trail team will be chosen.
