The Kosice Peace Marathon 2022 is scheduled to take place on October 2, 2022, in Kosice, Slovakia. It was originally run in 1924, making it the oldest marathon in Europe.The marathon is the third-oldest in the world after the Boston Marathon, first held in 1897, and the Yonkers Marathon, first held in 1907. As per an information released by the Marathon club on September 12, the number of registered participants had reached 9067 in all the disciplines.
The marathon typically takes place on the first Sunday in October every year. The course is quite flat and consists of two loops, the majority of which are located within the city center. The women’s course record was set by Ayuntu Tadesse of Ethiopia in the previous edition (2021). She clocked a timing of 2:24:35 to win the prestigious competition. While Kenya’s Lawrence Kimaiyo had established the men’s course record of 2:07:01 in the year 2012. The marathon earned IAAF Bronze Label Road Race classification in 2016. It was then granted a Silver status in 2018 by the World Athletics. However, it has now been upgraded as an Elite Label Road Race.
