After the first leg of the Indian Grand Prix 2023 that took place on March 20 in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, the next event is scheduled to take place in the same city on March 27, 2023. Hima Das, the Indian star runner was the main highlight the first leg of the Indian Grand Prix 2023. Moreover, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI) will be hosting a total of four Indian Grand Prix athletics events. The final event is scheduled to be held in September 10, 2023, in NIS Patiala, Punjab.
The Indian Grand Prix athletics will be hosted in Thiruvananthapuram on 27th March. Whereas the third and fourth events will be held in Bengaluru, and Karnataka on April 2, and April 10, respectively. There is also a fifth leg of the competition too. Which will start September onwards after the World Athletics Championships. Continuing from last year, the Athletics Federation of India (AFI), will celebrate August 7 as National Javelin Day to commemorate Neeraj Chopra’s historic gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics. A javelin throw competition will be held in all states on that day.
A total of 18 events will be held in India’s first Grand Prix athletics. 10 for men and 8 for women. Where women will compete in 100m, 200m, 800m, 500m, and 400m hurdles, long jump, high jump, and shot put, whereas men will compete in 100m, 200m, 800m, 5,00m, and 400m hurdles, long jump, triple jump, high jump, shot put, and javelin throw. Assamese runner Hima Das will take the track in the 200 races. She holds the national record in the women’s 400m sprint but she has rarely participated in big competitions due to her injuries. Whereas, in the men’s event Olympian Muhammed Anas will participate in the 200m races. The athlete from Kerala is the 400m national record holder moreover he also participated in the 2016 Rio Olympics.
