Tokyo Olympian and Asian Games 2018 shot put winner Tajinderpal Singh Toor and superstar hurdler Jyothi Yarraji will headline the 26-member Indian contingent at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships 2023 to be held in Astana, Kazakhstan from February 10 to 12, 2023. The squad also includes the likes of Amlan Borgohain, the national record holder in 100m and 200m sprint, Swapna Barman, the 2018 Asian Games gold medalist and triple jumper Praveen Chithravel, and long jumper Muhammed Anees Yahiya, who narrowly missed out on the medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Tajinderpal Toor clinched the silver medal at the Asian Indoor Athletics Championships, which took place in Tehran, Iran, in 2018. He would be eyeing to change the color of his medal as he participates in the Indoor competition. He would also be raring to go after missing out on a place in the World Championships and Commonwealth Games 2022, owing to a groin injury. However, Tajinder claimed the gold medal at the National Open Athletics Championship 2022 with a throw of 20.68 meters in October 2022 which would add to his confidence.

Jyothi who has been breaking records over and over again will be competing in the 60m and 60m hurdles and will aim for another national record. Praveen will look to make a lasting impression in the absence of the Commonwealth Games 2022 gold and silver medalists, Eldhose Paul and Abdulla Aboobacker. Long jumper Jeswin Aldrin who has already qualified for the World Championships 2023 is surely a medal prospect. Some of the other athletes to watch out for in this event will be long jumper Shaili Singh, Tejas Shirse, Archana Suseentran, Sarvesh Anil Kushare, and Rosy Meena Paulraj.
