India finished with their third-highest ever tally at the Commonwealth Games 2018 in Australia with a total medal count of 66. Their performances have risen considerably over the last two decades, with new stars being born at the mega-event. The 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi was India’s best ever edition finishing with 101 medals, with the 2018 edition being their best outside of home.

At Commonwealth Games 2018, India’s medal tally comprised 66 medals, including 26 golds, 20 silvers and 20 bronze. India ended third, behind Australia and England. India’s shooting team impressed massively at the event bagging 16 medals in totals, including 16-year old Manu Bhaker, who won the women’s 10m air pistol gold. Indian wrestlers bagged five gold, three silver and four bronze, while the boxers came back with nine medals in total.

Additionally, Anish Bhanwala became the youngest Indian gold medalist at the event at 15 years of age. He also broke the Games record to bag the top spot in the 25m rapid fire pistol. The Indian table tennis bagging eight medals to register its best-ever performance at the Commonwealth Games, with star Manika Batra leading from the front winning gold in both women’s singles and team events.

Neeraj Chopra came to prominence with a first-ever gold for India at CWG with an 86.47m attempt, while shuttlers Saina Nehwal and PV Sindhu both returned with the Gold and Silver medals after an all-Indian final.

With the 2022 Birmingham Games in sight, the Indians will aim to go one further as they look to achieve their highest ever medal count in England over the next 10 days.
