Since the Commonwealth Games 2018 where India grabbed a total of 8 medals, with three Gold medals, two Silver medals, and three Bronze medals, Indian Table Tennis has witnessed a huge rise on the international stage. Out of the 8 medals, paddler Manika Batra collected four medals which included an Individual gold medal in the Women’s Singles. She put up a clinical performance in the one-sided final by defeating Singapore’s Yu Mengyu by 4-0 (11-7, 11-6, 11-2, and 11-7) to become the first Indian woman to win Gold in the singles event in the Commonwealth Games. Manika played an indispensable role in contributing to India’s best-ever finish in Table tennis at the Commonwealth Games, teaming up with Mouma Das in the Women’s doubles and Sathiyan Gnanasekaran in the Mixed doubles to win the Silver and Bronze medals.

With a completely new-looking women’s team, it would be difficult to replicate the dominating show of Table tennis by the Indian paddlers in Birmingham. Representing India at Tokyo Olympics 2020, Manika became the first Indian paddler to enter the third round in any singles event in the Olympics. Being one of the most promising talents of India, Manika will look forward to defend her women’s singles title at the CWG 2022.
