Take a look at the list of Indians who have qualified for the Asian Games 2022 (Athletics) to be held in Hangzhou, China.
The Asian Games 2022 was officially slated to run from Sept 10 to Sept 25, 2022. However, an escalation in the number of Covid-19 cases in China led to the postponement of the games. The event will now be held from Sept 23 to Oct 08, 2023. After Beijing and Guangzhou were hosted in 1990 and 2010, Hangzhou will be the third Chinese city to host the games. This will be the 19th edition of the games. About 482 events across 61 sports disciplines will be held in the competition.
In Athletics, Tokyo Olympic gold medallist Neeraj Chopra will lead the Indian contingent. Steeplechaser Avinash Sable and long-jumper Murali Sreeshankar will also head to the competition as major favorites in their events. Despite the absence of Shooting and Archery, India finished their CWG campaign on a high with 61 medals. There were many firsts for India in Athletics, including the silver medals in the 3000m Steeplechase, 10,000m Race walk, and men’s long jump. With Asian Games being postponed for a year, the athletes will look to secure a berth for the Asian Games 2022. India will be aiming to up their game and deliver a much better show than the previous edition, finishing eighth overall.
