Among the female athletes, Annu Rani, Jyothi Yarraji, and Priyanka Goswami are a few who can easily breach the qualification mark set by AFI.
The Athletics Federation of India (AFI) announced the qualification standards for the upcoming Asian Games 2023, which will be hosted in Hangzhou, Zhejiang, China from September 23 to October 8, 2023. Several Indian athletes will compete in the upcoming events to meet the qualification criteria. With the Asian Games scheduled for August-September, athletes will have plenty of opportunities to compete and meet the qualification criteria.
The Asian Games qualification standards is usually different for each nation, unlike the Olympics, where qualifying marks are the same for all nations. The individual federations establish their own requirements, which athletes must meet within a specific qualifying window in order to be considered for selection to the final squad. If any athlete does not qualify, selectors may choose an athlete who is a possible medal winner at their judgment. Each federation receives a predetermined amount of quotas depending on past results and other considerations. Respective federations can choose their final team to fill the maximum quota allotted to them.
Neeraj Chopra and Avinash Sable are among the elite athletes can easily qualify based on their previous performances on the international level. It is same in the case of many field event athletes like Murali Sreeshankar, Jeswin Aldrin, and Anees Yahiya (long jump) and Abdulla Aboobeckar, Eldhose Paul, and Praveen Chithravel (triple jump). However, only two athletes from each event can enter the competition from one country. As a result of which, there will be a tough battle for the top two spots for the Asian Games 2022. All of the athletes mentioned had breached the qualification mark set for the Asian Games in their previous competition, so it won’t be difficult to cross the mark for them. However, it will be the mark that will come to the picture. The better the mark, the higher the chance of qualifying in the event. Among the female athletes, Annu Rani, Jyothi Yarraji, and Priyanka Goswami are a few who can easily breach the qualification mark set by AFI.
