Darby Allin stands apart from the typical modern wrestlers with his unique outlook. Unlike most of his counterparts, Allin wasn’t initially keen on wrestling and doesn’t follow WWE or other promotions aside from AEW. His passion for skateboarding takes precedence over his day job. This speaks volumes about the inclusive workplace culture fostered by AEW, where individuals can truly be themselves.
Allin expressed to “Lost Signals” her absolute comfort in being at home. When I discovered that AEW was launching as a business and heard the phrase “creative freedom”. Joining became an inevitable decision. Since I am true to myself without any pretense or subservience, what you witness is entirely Darby Allin. AEW’s transparency regarding its offerings is something I deeply appreciate.
When asked about instances where his “creative freedom” could be seen in AEW programming. Allin explained how he convinced AEW CEO Tony Khan to produce the pre-debut vignettes that introduced Nick Wayne. His intention was for the AEW audience to become acquainted with this promising wrestler. With whom he had mentored during their time on the independent Circuit.
Allin insisted that he didn’t want Wayne to be thrown out there as a random guy. He envisioned Wayne having a backstory, with numerous ideas in mind. Fortunately, Tony allows him the freedom to take the ball and run with it, which is one of its best features. This opportunity for personal engagement is something Allin has always desired, not just in wrestling but also in life.
