Eric Bischoff, a well-known figure in the wrestling industry, has recently shared his thoughts on whether AEW will expand its PPV schedule. AEW has gained significant acclaim for its fresh and inventive approach to professional wrestling, attracting a dedicated fanbase. Naturally, fans and insiders are curious about the possibility of AEW increasing the frequency of their highly anticipated PPV events.

Bischoff, renowned for his expertise in overseeing WCW during the Monday Night Wars era, shared his insights on the matter. He acknowledged that expanding the PPV schedule could present both opportunities and challenges for AEW.  According to Bischoff, AEW could benefit from additional PPV events. These events would offer more opportunities to showcase their talented performers, develop engaging storylines, and generate increased revenue.

His words were:

“My first thought is, why? Why would Warner Discovery encourage AEW to produce more pay-per-views? I guess it’s because Warner Discovery owns a piece, they see the revenue and they want a share of it. I’m guessing they do right now, you don’t hear a lot of that chatter. But I’m guessing that Warner Discovery probably owns a piece of AEW, that’s part of their overall deal. They sees revenue potential there that is readily available and they want at it. If that’s the case, then I’m more convinced than ever that Warner Discovery owns a piece of AEW as we speak and are looking for revenue upside. Otherwise, why would they care?”

Bischoff expressed concern that expanding the PPV schedule might diminish the importance of each individual event. He highlighted the significance of striking a balance between quantity and quality. He also ensured that every PPV remains an unmissable spectacle for fans. Bischoff drew from personal experience overseeing WCW’s extensive lineup of PPVs, which had faced criticism due to oversaturation and occasional viewer fatigue.

In the wrestling industry, various approaches to PPV scheduling have emerged. Some companies host monthly PPV events, while others prefer a more spaced-out approach, organizing quarterly or bi-annual specials. Each strategy presents its own advantages and challenges. Consequently, AEW must thoroughly assess these factors before making any decisions.

Bischoff proposed that AEW should assess the availability and demand for talent before expanding their PPV schedule. Given the presence of a diverse roster and limited time slots, it becomes crucial to ensure proper utilization and equal opportunities for all performers.
Bischoff emphasized the significance of incorporating creative storytelling and a long-term strategy while expanding the PPV schedule. It is crucial to develop captivating storylines and rivalries that generate anticipation for these events, preserving fan engagement and safeguarding the integrity of the product.
