Samuel Ratsch was born on the 7th of January, 1993. Darby Allin, best known by his ring name, is an American professional wrestler contracted to All Elite Wrestling (AEW) and a former two-time AEW TNT Champion. He is also well-known for wrestling for Evolve in World Wrestling Network events.

Ratsch participated in track and field as a child and played football since one of his grandfathers was an NFL player. He also participated in amateur wrestling since he mistook it for professional wrestling. He then attended a film school in Arizona before quitting to pursue a skateboarding career.

Ratsch participated in video clips with his buddies on Ridiculousness on a frequent basis thanks to his ties with Matt Schlager, until one video was deemed too excessive for the show to run. He also appeared on an episode of Sex Sent Me to the ER, subsequently admitting to Chris Van Vliet that the narrative was made up because he needed the money. Ratsch was purposefully homeless for almost three years.

Working in the Independent Circuit

Ratsch made his pro wrestling debut in late 2014 for Blue Collar Wrestling in Portland, Oregon as Darby Graves, before changing his ring name to Darby Allin. Darby Allin performed for wrestling organizations such as EVOLVE Wrestling, The Wrestling REVOLVER, Full Impact Pro, Pro Wrestling Guerilla, and Game Changer Wrestling (GCW) from 2015 to 2019.

Joining World Wrestling Network

Allin made his World Wrestling Network debut in April 2016 at Evolve 59, losing to Ethan Page. Allin was defeated by Brian Cage via count out at Evolve 74 after Cage power slammed Allin over a barrier. Allin debuted on Style Battle in January 2017, losing to Dave Crist. Allin made his Full Impact Pro debut at FIP Everything Burns in early 2017, losing a Fight For All match. At the same event, Allin beat Sammy Guevara, Dezmond Xavier, Jason Kincaid, and Jason Cade together with A. R. Fox, Dave Crist, and Sami Callihan. He was defeated by DJZ at Evolve 93, then in January 2018, Allin lost to Zack Sabre Jr. for the Evolve Championship at EVOLVE 98.

On August 30, 2018, it was revealed that Allin would face NXT wrestler Velveteen Dream at Evolve 113. Dream beat Allin at Evolve 113. Mustafa Ali beat Allin at Evolve 116. Kassius Ohno beat Allin at Evolve 117. Allin was beaten the next night at Evolve 118 by Roderick Strong.

He performed his final bout for Evolve over WrestleMania weekend, losing to Anthony Henry at Evolve 125. He also competed at Amerika Ist Wunderbar, which was promoted by Westside Xtreme Wrestling (wXw) and in cooperation with WWN and was beaten by Avalanche. The next day, he competed in WWN Supershow Mercury Rising with his wife Priscilla Kelly, but they were beaten by Austin Theory and Brandi Lauren. That same weekend, he announced the end of his three-year engagement with Evolve and WWN.

 

 

Lucha Libre AAA and Progress Wrestling

On June 3, 2018, Allin made his Lucha Libre AAA Worldwide debut at Verano de Escándalo in a six-way match won by Aero Star. Drago, Sammy Guevara, Australian Suicide, and Golden Magic were also in the contest.

Allin wrestled for Progress Wrestling on their American tours in 2018. He made his debut for the company at Chapter 66: Mardi Graps, held in Louisiana, in a Thuderbastard match won by Jeff Cobb. He later debuted on day five of the Coast to Coast Tour, teaming up with Jack Sexsmith and Toni Storm in a six-person tag team bout.

Allin was revealed as a participant in the Super Strong Style 16 on March 14, 2019. He was beaten by Paul Robinson at the tournament. On day two, he defeated Artemis Spencer, Chris Brookes, and DJZ in a six-man lucha rules tag team match with Chris Ridgeway and Lucky Kid. On day three, Allin competed in a scramble match, which Brookes won.

AEW debut

Allin joined with the newly formed All Elite Wrestling (AEW) on April 12, 2019. He made his AEW debut on June 29 at the Fyter Fest event, wrestling Cody to a time-limit draw. The following month, Allin partnered with Joey Janela and Jimmy Havoc in a losing effort versus Shawn Spears, MJF, and Sammy Guevara at Fight for the Fallen. Following the game, the three guys would blame each other for their defeat and quarrel backstage. As a result, a three-way match was scheduled for the August 31 All Out pay-per-view, which Havoc won.

Allin entered the AEW World Championship race in October and would face Chris Jericho for the title on the October 16 edition of Dynamite, but lost. On January 15, 2020, Allin played in a four-man competition for the number one contenders to the AEW World Championship at Bash at the Beach but lost in the first round against Pac. Following this, Allin developed a fight with Jericho’s ally, Sammy Guevara. On February 29, the two squared off at Revolution, and Allin won. Allin played in a tournament to determine the inaugural holder of the AEW TNT Championship in April. He was defeated after losing to Cody in the semi-finals after overcoming Guevara in the first round.

On May 23, Allin competed in the first-ever Casino Ladder Match at Double or Nothing, which was won by the debuting Brian Cage. Allin returned to Fight for the Fallen on July 15, hitting Cage with a skateboard after a brief break. On the July 29 episode of Dynamite, Allin partnered with AEW World Champion Jon Moxley to beat Cage and Ricky Starks in a tornado tag team match, earning Allin a title match against Moxley. Allin was beaten in the bout on the next week’s episode of Dynamite.

On August 29, a 30-second black-and-white piece featuring Allin going down a forest road with thumbtacks in his back, then climbing to the top of a bridge and jumping from it into a river was released. Allin played in the 21-man Casino Battle Royale at All Out on September 5, but was eliminated by Cage. On the September 30th edition of Dynamite, Allin triumphed against foe Ricky Starks.

Teaming up with Sting

Allin defeated Cody Rhodes to win the AEW TNT Championship at Full Gear on November 7, 2020. Later, Rhodes and Allin would join forces in a feud with Team Taz. Will Hobbs turned heel on the November 18, 2020, edition of Dynamite after helping Taz, Brian Cage, and Ricky Starks in attacking both Allin and Rhodes. On December 2, 2020, special Winter Is Coming, Allin and Rhodes defeated Hobbs and Starks. Following the match, Sting made his AEW debut and ran off Team Taz when they jumped Allin and Rhodes, after which Allin and Sting stared each other down.

Allin successfully defended his championship against Brian Cage on January 13, 2021, special New Year’s Smash Night 2. On January 21, it was revealed that Allin and Sting will compete in a street fight at Revolution against Team Taz’s Ricky Starks and Brian Cage. Allin and Sting defeated Team Taz in a dramatic pre-taped match at Revolution. Allin successfully defended the AEW TNT Championship against Scorpio Sky on the March 10, 2021, episode of Dynamite.

On March 17, Allin issued an open challenge to the Dark Order in honor of the late “greatest TNT Champion of all time,” Brodie Lee, to which John Silver answered. The next week, Allin defeated Silver to reclaim his championship. He successfully defended the TNT Championship against JD Drake on Dynamite on April 7 and against The Butcher at AEW’s inaugural non-televised show two days later, while also beginning a feud with Matt Hardy.

Allin successfully defended the AEW TNT Championship against Jungle Boy on April 21. Allin successfully defended the championship against Dark Order’s ten on April 28, before being ambushed by Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page. Lance Archer and the Dark Order’s 10 would then attack Sky and Page, sparing Sting and Allin in the process.

Allin lost the TNT Championship against Miro on the May 12 edition of Dynamite, ending his 186-day reign. At Double or Nothing, Allin paired up with Sting to overcome Scorpio Sky and Ethan Page’s squad. On July 14, he beat Page in AEW’s first-ever Coffin Match at Night 1 of Fyter Fest, putting a stop to their feud.

CM Punk, who made his AEW return after a seven-year sabbatical from professional wrestling, challenged Allin to a pay-per-view match at All Out on the August 20 edition of AEW Rampage dubbed The First Dance. Punk defeated Allin in the bout.

Allin would defeat Andrade El Idolo, Matt Hardy, and Isiah Kassidy in a Tornado tag team match alongside Sammy Guevara and Sting at Revolution 2022. Allin wrestled Jeff Hardy on Dynamite on May 11, 2022. Despite losing, Allin executed a daring jump from a high ladder, which garnered media attention.

Allin would begin a feud with the reigning TNT Champion, Samoa Joe, in December 2022. Allin beat Samoa Joe to win the TNT Championship for the second time on the January 4, 2023 episode of Dynamite in his hometown of Seattle, Washington.

After successfully defending the championship four times in four weeks on Dynamite and Rampage, Allin surrendered the title to Samoa Joe in a No Holds Barred match on the February 1 edition of Dynamite, bringing Allin’s second TNT title reign to an end after 28 days.

Darby Allin's wife

Ratsch leads a strict lifestyle, which he chose in part as a result of a tragic experience when he was five years old: Ratsch was a passenger in a car when his uncle was driving while inebriated; his uncle lost control of the vehicle and was killed in the ensuing disaster.

Ratsch married fellow wrestler Priscilla Kelly, who currently competes for WWE as part of the NXT roster as Gigi Dolin, on November 21, 2018. The pair announced their divorce on August 10, 2020. Kelly revealed in December 2020, during an interview on Vickie Guerrero’s Excuse Me podcast, that they were no longer married, but remained friends.
