Kurt Angle, the WWE Hall of Famer, has highlighted an AEW veteran as someone who should have reached the summit of the WWE mountain. Angle reminisced on Christopher Daniels’ squandered potential during his time in TNA on his Kurt Angle Show podcast, and he was perplexed as to why he was never actually taken up by WWE.

Angle said: “Oh yeah. He was the best-kept secret in the company that that kid could do anything.

“I’m not gonna lie to you about this. He was just about every bit as good as AJ once.

“He was a heavyweight wrestler. He was an X-Division wrestler. He could talk on the microphone just as well as anybody else.

“He had all the skills to be a main event wrestler for the WWE. He really did. And I’m not sure why it never occurred for him. Chris was always underutilized no matter where he went.”

Aside from a brief spell in WWE’s developmental programme from 1998 to 2001, Daniels has spent the previous two decades in TNA, ROH, and, eventually, AEW. The 53-year-old still competes on a regular basis, notably for Tony Khan’s ROH brand, and also works in AEW’s talent relations department.
