Rush announced on July 24 that he had re-signed with AEW. Dave Meltzer wrote in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that he knew more about what was going on. Meltzer said that WWE wanted RUSH and that he would have been in NXT at first. Even so, once WWE found out that AEW had offered “insane money” to keep him, they never made a real deal for him.

“The belief is the new deal is multiple years. Regarding the WWE situation with him, the explanation from multiple people there is that they were interested in him for NXT and understood that they’d have to make him an offer much bigger than just about anyone in NXT (obviously not Gable Steveson but bigger than anyone else) because he’d get a big offer from AEW.

However, WWE never made an official offer because when they found out what AEW offered, they knew there was no way he was going to WWE. Someone in WWE called the offer “insane money.”

What kept RUSH with AEW?

Aside from the huge paycheck, it seems that RUSH stayed with AEW for other reasons. Jose The Assistant wrote on social media after the new deal was signed that the reason the star decided to stay was because Tony Khan cared about his wife and new baby.

Jose also said that RUSH had other offers, but they never really thought about moving. CM Punk said after the news that he wanted RUSH to be a “Collider.”
