Kris Statlander dethroned Jade Cargill at AEW Double or Nothing, she was nervous at first. She had self-doubt if she could defeat her. Jade Cargill had already won 60-0 fights as a champion which made Statlander a bit hesitant to break it. Jade Cargill is out and recovering right now.

Kris Statlander: I’m not sure that I deserved to pin Jade Cargill

During her recent appearance on Busted Open Radio, she talked about various topics like how she felt going into that match against the undefeated Jade Cargill. How she feels as a champion going around.

I was anxious and unsure of whether I was the right person for the job. It’s not only a result of how highly they elevated her. She possessed such amazing star power and has such a presence. She is wanted by people. I was placing pressure on myself, wondering how I would measure up to the kind of person and star she is.

She has attracted a lot of outside attention to wrestling and is unbeaten. She has achieved a lot. Realizing that I don’t have to be the next Jade will take some time. I simply need to embody Kris Statlander and ensure that my title reigns. I’m not going to be Jade, but I can still attend events and do things that she did. Nobody is going to be Jade. The first TBS Champion is Jade. She has held the title in AEW history the longest. I believe that no one else in the world will ever have those two magnificent honors.

Statlander is looking forward to holding the championship and performing in front of fans once more, despite the initial pressure of being the one to dethrone Cargill. It’s a lot of pressure to simply demonstrate that I am the one who stepped up, that I can step up, and that I will step up. Even though I’ve taken some time off—not that I’ve been away for a long time, but I’ve had to due to an injury—I can return straight away and be the champion that the public wants and deserves to witness. I’ve only been back a little over a week, but I’ve already participated in four matches. (h/t WrestleZone)
