Despite things not working out in AEW, Ross expressed his belief that Pillman would find success in other settings within the wrestling industry.
Even though he was signed to MLW at the time, Brian Pillman Jr. began participating in AEW from its inception. In 2019, he even took part in the Casino Battle Royale at Double or Nothing. Until 2021, following the terms of his contract with MLW, he had the chance to work for the organization on a per-appearance basis.
The Varsity Blonds came together in 2020 when a second-generation star joined forces with Griff Garrison. Julia Hart later joined their ranks but eventually decided to leave the group when she was convinced to join the House of Black. The faction made occasional appearances on Dynamite and Rampage. However, they were mainly seen on Dark and Dark: Elevation. Since the February 1st episode of Rampage, where he lost to Swerve Strickland, Pillman hasn’t had any televised matches.
Earlier this week, it was announced that Pillman had left AEW as his contract with the company expired. On the latest episode of Grilling JR, renowned announcer Jim Ross discussed the superstar’s departure from All Elite Wrestling. Despite things not working out in AEW, Ross expressed his belief that Pillman would find success in other settings within the wrestling industry.
“It wasn’t working,” Ross said. “He’s not losing any ring time. He’ll have plenty of opportunities. He’s just gotta structure his journey and be smart about the decisions that he makes and get all the in-ring time that he can. Wrestle as many matches as he can schedule. So, he’s gonna be fine, just gotta have his plan and work it. His career took a minor tumble, but not one that you can’t get up from. So, I have a lot of confidence he’s gonna end up very successful in wrestling.”
