At the July 8 show of AEW Collision, CM Punk led a meeting backstage, which seemed to be a way to help separate Tony Khan’s new Saturday night brand from Dynamite on Wednesdays. Fightful Select says that fighters who usually appear on Dynamite or who weren’t at the 8 July Collision show weren’t told about the Punk-led event. This was because most of the talk was about how Collision can be different from Dynamite.
Fightful says that the changes between Dynamite and Collision make it a “point to where many of Dynamite’s usual detractors have taken a liking to Collision.” At Punk’s meeting, they talked about differentiating between Dynamite and Collision. They talked about ends, pranks, and other things that are good and bad for the new show.
The group also talked about how to promote AEW-related projects, such as Fight Forever. The recently put into place-safety rules were also talked about. Collision came out on June 17 with “Punk” as its main piece. In the semi-finals of the Owen Hart Foundation Tournament on July 8, the Chicagoan wrestler faced off against his foe Samoa Joe. He won, but the next week he lost to Ricky Starks.
