Since the outbreak of the epidemic, WWE has laid off a large number of personnel, primarily wrestlers. However, it might be argued that the most significant loss to the organization in recent years was not a WWE Superstar at all. WWE dismissed several personnel who had been working backstage in NXT earlier this year as it works to revamp the brand, and one of that people was William Regal.

Yuta, Garcia, and Starks

William Regal has now been taken up by AEW, and the Brit is now the leader of the Blackpool Combat Club. He’s probably also collaborating with a number of individuals backstage. It turns out that some of the people he currently works with are people he attempted and failed to recruit into NXT, most likely because the brand’s wheels of change were already in action.

Regal recently stated to Talk Sport’s Alex McCarthy that he attempted to bring in Wheeler Yuta, Daniel Garcia, and Ricky Starks while still at NXT. The precise day Regal sought to make the three of them NXT Superstars is unknown. McCarthy clarifies in a subsequent tweet that Starks’ interest was pre-pandemic, meaning before he debuted for AEW.

William Regal and Yuta in The BCC

Starks is now perhaps AEW’s biggest star, while Garcia and Yuta also have bright futures. Regal is certainly a fan of Yuta because he is now a member of the aforementioned BCC, a move that was most likely made by the former WWE commissioner. It’s also worth mentioning that when WWE passed on signing Yuta last year, certain insiders within the organisation knew for sure that huge changes were on the way.

It’s still perplexing that any wrestling promoter would let Regal leave, regardless of the new route the company was going to take. The man has a nearly infinite amount of information to pass on to future stars, and he is now an asset to AEW rather than WWE. His effort is already beginning to bear fruit, and it’s fantastic to see him back on television on a daily basis rather than just once a year to cry WarGames.
