The Pan American Wrestling Championships 2023, which will include both individual and team competitions, will be held in Buenos Aires, Argentina, from May 3 to 7, 2023. The competition will feature 280 athletes from 19 different countries. For the tournament, the top four wrestlers will be seeded. Performances at the 2022 World Championships and the two Ranking Series events this year were considered when determining the rankings. Additionally, this competition will be used to determine the seeds for the 2023 World Championships in Serbia.
Nations from North America, Central America, South America, and the Caribbean compete in the Pan American Wrestling Championships as their continental wrestling competition. Since the sport’s inception, competitions have been held in the FILA-recognized Greco-Roman, freestyle, and Sambo wrestling styles. Along with the aforementioned styles, women’s freestyle competitions have been held since 1997.
Yanet Sovero, 40, has signed up to compete in her 17th senior Pan-American event. She won silver at her first continental competition in 2002. Sovero has won nine medals, placed in six finals, and won the 2020 Pan-Am championship. She has received one gold, five silver, and four bronze awards. In addition, she competed in four World Championships and the 2016 Olympic Games in wrestling.
The four-time world champion Dake is aiming for a hattrick of Pan American titles. The bronze medalist from the Olympics in Tokyo and John SMITH (USA) were the only Americans to complete a four-peat at the Worlds in September of last year. At the non-Olympic weight class of 79 kg, where Dake won his first two World Championship titles, and at 74 kg, he won his final title. Along with winning the 2018 World Cup, the 32-year-old also won the U. S. Open championships in 2016 and 2018. For Cornell, Dake won the NCAA championship four times, in 2010, 2011, 2012, and 2013. He was the first wrestler to win four NCAA Division I championships in four different weight classes
The 27-year-old phenom Snyder, however, is attempting to complete his own Pan-American triple crown. At the 2017 World Championships, Abdulrashid Sadulaev was defeated by Snyder, giving him his second career loss and his first defeat in 75 matches. Flowrestling ranked Snyder as the best pound-for-pound freestyle wrestler on the planet in September 2017; he would keep that title in their June 2018 rankings. With this comeback triumph, Team USA won its first World Championship in more than 20 years, and Snyder won his third consecutive World or Olympic title.
