How did India perform at the U17 Asian Wrestling Championships?

A 60-member Indian contingent is participating in the U23 and U17 Asian Wrestling Championships 2023. The tournament started on Saturday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

A 60-member Indian contingent is participating in the U23 and U17 Asian Wrestling Championships 2023. The tournament started on Saturday in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan. The Indian contingent has a lot of new talent in the middle. These wrestlers are competing in the men’s and women’s freestyle and men’s Greco-Roman categories at the U23 and U17 Asian Wrestling Championships 2023. There are 10 weight divisions in each of the three wrestling formats per age group.

India had a great campaign at the Asian championship. The U-17 contingent gave a lot of promising starts and hopes. The performances gave an affirmation to the coaches about the Indian contingent. Let us look at the final medal tally of the U-17:

India’s U-23 Wrestlers team

Among the 60 wrestlers selected through the trials, the men’s freestyle wrestler Sagar Jaglan, competing in the 79kg, is one of India’s top medal prospects along with Greco-Roman wrestlers Ankit Gulia (72kg), Vikas (77kg), Rohit Dahiya (82kg) and Nitesh (97kg). The 19-year-old Sagar Jaglan is the 2021 cadet world champion and 2019 U15 Asian champion as well. He won a bronze medal at the U20 world championships last year. Ankit Gulia, meanwhile, is also a 2019 U15 Asian champion and clinched a bronze medal in the senior-level Ibrahim Moustafa Ranking Series earlier this year. Rohit Dahiya, Vikas and Nitesh won bronze medals at the U23 world championships last year. The U-23 begins on Thursday 15th June from 10 am onwards. In the opening rounds, there will be qualification rounds for each wrestler followed by the final bouts.

When is the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships for U17 & U23?

The 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships will commence on June 10 and end on June 18. The championship is taking place in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan.

Where to watch the 2023 Asian Wrestling Championships for U17 & U23?

Live streaming of the U23 and U17 Asian Wrestling Championships will be available in India on the United World Wrestling (UWW) website and YouTube channel. The event will not be telecast live in India.
