Unbeaten prospect Yazmin Jauregui anticipates a strawweight championship change in August. In the co-main event of UFC 292 in Boston on August 19, Brazilian Amanda Lemos faces up against champion Zhang Weili.

Jauregui has been a close observer of the strawweight division and believes that Lemos is a dangerous challenger. She sees Lemos as a strong striker with several knockout wins to her name. She also believes that Lemos is ready for the big stage and could pull off an upset against Weili.

“I think Lemos could win,” Jauregui said. “She has a hard punch and she’s got good boxing. Weili is very complete, but she needs to be smart. If she buys into the exchanges and aggressiveness, she could eat a punch. She needs to be smart, but I think Lemos is ready for this moment and could take the win.”

Jauregui: Weili is a Tough Opponent, but Lemos Has Knockout Power

Weili is a challenging fighter in Jauregui’s opinion. Although Weili, in her opinion, is a more capable combatant, Lemos has the ability to knock Weili unconscious. She anticipates a tight battle that might end either way.

“Weili is very fast and very aggressive,” Jauregui said. “She needs to be very intelligent because Lemos has a punch, and she’s strong. So if Weili doesn’t keep focused, a punch could wobble her. But again, Weili is very complete. I can’t miss that fight.”

Jauregui will be watching the fight closely as she prepares for her own UFC fight on Saturday. She takes on Denise Gomes on the preliminary card of UFC 290. Jauregui is looking to extend her unbeaten streak to 11 fights and she believes that a win over Gomes will put her in contention for a title shot.

“I’m excited to get back in the octagon and I’m confident that I can get the job done,” Jauregui said. “I’m ready for whatever Gomes brings and I’m looking to put on a show for the fans.”

The UFC strawweight title fight between Amanda Lemos and Zhang Weili is sure to be a barnburner. Jauregui believes that it could be the fight of the year and she’s excited to see who comes out on top.
