He became passionate about wrestling and made a noticeable impact in his school days, eventually going to Arizona State University.

Covington’s relentless trash talk may have left a sour taste in many fans and fellow fighters, but ultimately, he proved his worth through his performances inside the cage. Despite the divisive nature of his words, Covington’s actions spoke volumes and substantiated his claims. But who is he going to fight next inside the octagon?

Colby Covington to lock horns with Leon Edwards

The upcoming UFC welterweight title challenge is expected to be undertaken by Covington, who is set to face the reigning champion, Leon Edwards. Although the fight has yet to be officially announced with a confirmed date, UFC President Dana White is determined to make this fight happen, despite facing resistance from certain members of the MMA community.

The unexpected twist unfolded during UFC 286 in March 2023, as Covington made a comeback to the UFC. He stepped in as a replacement fighter for the main event, where Edwards was scheduled to defend his title against Kamaru Usman. Covington’s return to the Octagon after a year-long absence after beating his bitter rival, Jorge Masvidal.

Covington’s victory over Masvidal effectively ended his losing streak. His willingness to serve as a backup fighter also played a crucial role, garnering recognition from UFC President Dana White, who decided to grant him the next title shot.

Colby Covington has an impressive record

Covington has demonstrated remarkable balance during his impressive 17-3 MMA journey. Although his finishing rate may not be exceptionally high, Covington compensates for it through his array of other remarkable attributes.

Covington’s pace creates a dangerous environment for his opponents, overwhelming them with rapid punches and takedown attempts. Interestingly, in three out of his 15 UFC fights, Covington entered the octagon as the betting underdog, with two of those instances occurring during his bouts against Usman.
