Sean O’Malley recently registered the biggest win of his career by beating Petr Yan at last week’s UFC 280 event. Going into the fight, O’Malley was a major underdog, however, he managed to give Yan a run for his money and even walked away with the victory.

However, that wasn’t without controversy. The fight was extremely close and could’ve gone either way. Since the fight, many people have suggested that Petr Yan should’ve been awarded the split decision instead of Sean O’Malley. Interestingly, UFC commentator Joe Rogan is on the same page as well.

During a recent episode of his JRE podcast, Joe Rogan talked about the Sean O’Malley vs Petr Yan fight. He further suggested that he thought Yan did enough to beat O’Malley. He said: “It was a very close fight, and he [Sean O’Malley] definitely hurt Petr [Yan] on multiple occasions. Caught him with that big knee, rocked him. I’m not denying that I thought Petr Yan won, because I did think he won at the end of it.”

Can Sean O’Malley fight Aljamain Sterling for the title now?

Going into the Sean O’Malley vs. Petr Yan bout, it was suggested that the winner will have the opportunity to face Aljamain Sterling for the title. However, that might not be the case anymore. It is worth noting that Sterling also fought on the same card and defended his title against T.J Dillashaw.

Following Aljamain Sterling’s win over T.J Dillashaw, former UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo announced that he wants to fight Sterling for the belt. And from where things stand right now, it looks like Cejudo will get an immediate title shot upon his return instead of Sean O’Malley.

That said, nothing is certain at the moment. It remains to be seen if the UFC actually make Henry Cejudo vs. Aljamain Sterling next.
