Former UFC bantamweight champion Henry Cejudo has called out Sean O’Malley for a potential interim championship match. Cejudo has been out of action since May 2020 after defending his title against Dominick Cruz.

Following his win, he went on to announce his retirement. However, ‘Triple C’ is now waiting to make his return to the octagon. While it was suggested that Cejudo will face Aljamain Sterling for the UFC bantamweight championship upon his return, we might see him fight in an interim championship matchup first.

This is because Aljamain Sterling will not fight until June next year and Henry Cejudo wants to get back to fighting as soon as possible. Cejudo took to Twitter to urge Dana White for making an interim championship bout between him and Sean O’Malley at the UFC 284 event in Australia. He said: “Hey @danawhite since Denzel Sterling wants to work on his rap career (He can be called Lil Power) How about Me vs. Ronald MethDonald @SugaSeanMMA for a interim in Australia? I’m short so I’m used to being down under.”

Take a look at his tweet below:

It’s safe to say that Henry Cejudo is desperate to make his return to the octagon. However, Sean O’Malley hasn’t responded to his challenge as of yet.

Can Henry Cejudo become a two time bantamweight champion?

During his time, Cejudo was one of the best fighters on the roster, let alone his weight division. Moreover, he retired from the sport during his peak back in 2020. While he has not fought professionally since then, he has continued to train and stay in shape.

That said, Henry Cejudo certainly possesses all the skills necessary to come back and get his hands on the title yet again. However, it will be interesting to see when he will get the opportunity to fight for the title in the UFC again.
