Dustin Poirier, the former UFC interim lightweight champion, is sick of waiting for a fight. ‘The Diamond’ just stated that he has agreed to face Nate Diaz twice this year, although nothing has been scheduled as of yet. Poirier has been out of action since December 2021, when he was defeated by Charles Oliveira. He was soon connected to a bout with rival star Nate Diaz after his defeat. On Twitter, both guys consented to the fight several times.

Signed to fight 3 times

Despite those arrangements, the combat never took place. However, it is not due to a problem on Poirier’s end. On The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani, the 33-year-old stated that he has signed a three-fight contract with the Stockton Slugger. Two of those occurrences occurred this year as well. Dustin Poirier felt that the lack of an official fight with Nate Diaz was due to the latter’s issue with the UFC. The Stockton native has openly expressed his intention to quit the company, maybe to fight Jake Paul in a boxing bout.

Dustin Poirier on the fight

When speaking to MMA Hour Poirier said, “Bro, this fight has been offered to me twice already this year, and I’ve accepted both times. It’s not like I’m chasing this guy. Don’t call my phone and ask me to fight the guy, – maybe he can’t get a deal done. On my side, I’ve accepted twice this year, 2022… I know as much as everyone else knows, I know he has one fight left. They offered him Chimaev, I don’t know.”

Dustin Poirier continued, “But I know for sure, I was offered him twice, I said yes both times. One was a couple of weeks after I lost to Charles Oliveira, maybe the week after… I’ve been offered this fight three times, it’s been accepted three times, twice this year… He’s trying to get out of this contract. Well, get a damn deal done and let’s fight at 170.”

Nate Diaz vs. Dustin Poirier

Dustin Poirier and Nate Diaz were scheduled to fight at UFC 230 in November 2018. Unfortunately, the battle had to be cancelled since ‘The Diamond’ had to withdraw due to an injury. Poirier later stated on Twitter that the discussions for the Diaz bout were not moving further. As a result, the Louisiana native preferred to treat a persistent ailment rather than confront the Stockton native. Despite the cancellation, Poirier stated that he still wants to face Diaz at some time in the future. He also stated that he may have overreacted to Nate Diaz’s charges.
