Jorge Masvidal and Colby Covington, UFC welterweight rivals, appeared in Florida’s 11th Circuit Court on Thursday (via Zoom), where Judge Zachary James set a new court date of May 12 (status hearing) and updated Masvidal’s charges in last month’s street attack. After reportedly ambushing “Chaos” outside a “Sunshine State” restaurant, Masvidal has been charged with single charges of aggravated violence resulting in serious bodily injury and criminal mischief. According to a fresh allegation from MMA Junkie, Covington sustained “brain damage” during the incident.

Masvidal has also been ordered to keep at least 25 feet away from Covington and at least 500 feet away from his personal house, according to the source. The two-time championship contender told the court he was “in fear” of being attacked again. Masvidal is likewise prohibited from any direct or indirect contact with Covington.

Jorge Masvidal was detained on March 23 and later freed on $5,000 bail after pleading “Not Guilty” to both counts. If and when this matter goes to trial, his lawyers are anticipated to allege “mutual combat.” Covington’s attorneys have filed a motion requesting a medical examination as well as an examination of the Rolex allegedly damaged in the claimed attack.

Covington and Masvidal were freinds

The jury will undoubtedly hear the totality of their long-running (and very unpleasant) conflict. Former friends and training partners, Covington and Masvidal were torn apart by their respective pursuits for the welterweight crown. Covington would go on to defeat Masvidal in the UFC 272 main event, but “Gamebred” demanded street justice for incendiary remarks made by “Chaos” during the build-up to their five-round battle.

That claimed retaliation may cost you up to 15 years in jail and a $10,000 fine. It is still unclear whether the dispute between both men is over or not. But if it is for the championship then we may get to see both men in the octagon in some-time after in the future.
