Colby Covington is recovering from an attack by Jorge Masvidal at a Miami restaurant earlier this week.  MMA commentator Chael Sonnen, who knows Covington well and has a positive connection with the UFC welterweight had something to say. Sonnen did not go as much detail, but he did provide the following video update on Twitter on Friday:

“Not good. Guys keep asking me how is Colby (Covington) doing. I’m gonna be very light on details; this is not my story to tell. You want an answer? There’s your answer – Not good.”

Covington and Masvidal squared off earlier this month in a big animosity bout at UFC 272. It was a main event clash that had been one of the best in the building, as the two welterweights went from best friends to archrivals. Insults were slung at every step, and Covington’s verbal assaults grew rather personal to Masvidal when he mentioned his children.

Colby Covington and Masvidal bout

Masvidal tracked down Covington at a Miami restaurant earlier this week after their confrontation inside the Octagon, crept up on “Chaos,” and sucker struck him twice. Covington had a fractured tooth and his $90,000 Rolex watch was damaged. Covington filed charges as a consequence, and “Gamebred” was criminally charged with aggravated violence with physical assault and criminal mischief, all of which are crimes in the state of Florida.

To simply put it, the past week has been tough for Colby. Despite his friendship with Masvidal having already ended, things got more real for “Chaos” on a regular Monday night when Masvidal organised his assault. When you consider the vitriol Colby has experienced from the MMA community for bringing charges against his old friend, it’s easy to see why the welterweight contender is struggling.

Covington, a fighter who constantly seems to have an opinion on everything, hasn’t made any public statements since his old friend turned enemy attacked. Also, Masvidal did wrong to Covington but talking bad about someone’s kids and family is not good. Not good at all Colby!!!!
