Former UFC title contender Chael Sonnen says Tom Aspinall’s modest media approach has led to some serious blunders. Aspinall (12-2 MMA) is a Manchester, England native who has gone 5-0 since joining the UFC in July of 2020. The English heavyweight has won all five of his fights by stoppage, with four of them occurring in the first round. Despite his remarkable climb through the heavyweight rankings, Tom Aspinall recently stated that he should not be considered for a future interim championship bout since there are other competitors who merit it more.

While some fans and commentators have commended Aspinall for his modest demeanor, Chael Sonnen, a former UFC championship contender, has a different opinion. With his latest words, ‘The American Gangster’ feels the Manchester native made some major errors. Chael Sonnen said, “Aspinall does interviews like a 13-year-old fan. Aspinall cuts an interview that he should not receive a title shot. Somebody else should, he’s not ready for it. All right, we got a young guy who wants to show a sense of humility, who never should have done an interview that said that. But everybody’s gotta have a mistake before they can make a correction.”

Chael Sonnen was pissed

Chael Sonnen continued saying, “If I had time and he hadn’t pissed me off so bad, I would offer, ‘Don’t ever say anything else, every interview and press conference that you go to, I will show up with a bullhorn and make a whole big scene of it. You stand there and don’t say anything, I will have you fighting for the belt within 12 months.’ That’s the plan anyway, that you’re getting in the way of!” On July 23rd, Tom Aspinall will meet Curtis Blaydes in his second Octagon outing. The victor of the bout will be in line for a crack at the championship.
