Conor McGregor’s quest for a victory on season 31 of The Ultimate Fighter remains unfulfilled, as his fighter Trevor Wells fell short in a unanimous decision loss to Timur Valiev in the latest episode. Despite McGregor’s coaching efforts, Wells was unable to secure the win, adding to the team’s disappointing run on the show.

As the season progresses, McGregor’s team of up-and-coming fighters continue to struggle, remaining winless after four episodes. In contrast, Michael Chandler’s team of seasoned veterans has dominated, securing victories in every fight thus far.

Tervor Wells couldn’t open Conor McGregor’s win account

Trevor Wells, facing a formidable challenge against former UFC bantamweight Timur Valiev, showed promise early in the fight by stunning his opponent with a powerful left hand within the opening minute.

However, the experienced Russian wasted no time in utilizing his grappling skills, swiftly executing a body-lock takedown and transitioning to take Wells’ back. It was a challenging bout for Wells, highlighting the tough competition he faced in The Ultimate Fighter.

Valiev demonstrated his versatility by showcasing striking techniques, narrowly missing with spinning attacks while engaging on the feet. Recognizing that he was likely trailing on the scorecards, Wells unleashed a flurry of offense at the start of the second round. The bantamweights engaged in an intense striking battle, exchanging heavy punches.

Valiev managed to secure another takedown, maintaining control over Wells for a significant portion of the round. However, with only a minute remaining, the American fighter executed a successful reversal, shifting the momentum in his favor.

Dana White was impressed by Trevor Wells despite the loss

McGregor’s visible frustration was evident when the judges did not award either of the rounds in Wells’ favor. Chandler, however, expressed disagreement with McGregor’s suggestion of a sudden death round, sharing his perspective on the fight.

“I get what Conor is saying, if I was in his shoes I would probably think the fight was closer than it actually was. But to me and the judges, we know who won those two rounds.”

Despite the defeat, UFC President Dana White expressed admiration for Wells’ performance. He said, “Trevor showed some great defence against the cage when Timur got him in a body triangle.”

In the upcoming episode, Conor McGregor will find himself coaching against his SBG teammate Brad Katona, as he places his hopes on Carlos Vera to secure the first victory for his team.
