The main card for UFC 290 is now official. The UFC’s annual International Fight Week returns on July 8 with a stacked card headlined by two title fights: UFC featherweight champion Alexander Volkanovski takes on interim champion Yair Rodriguez in a unification match in the main event, and Brandon Moreno defends his flyweight title in a rematch against Alexandre Pantoja in the co-headliner. The T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas will host UFC 290.
Volkanovski is presently the sport’s No. 2 pound-for-pound male fighter, according to MMA Fighting. He’s attempting his sixth consecutive championship defense after coming short of two-division success against Islam Makhachev in February. To do so, he must first defeat Rodriguez, who won the interim championship with a second-round submission of Josh Emmett.
UFC International Fight Week has a show that lives up to its name if not its star power reputation. UFC 290 takes place on Saturday, July 8 in Las Vegas, and features competitors from all around the world. The main event at the T-Mobile Arena will put Alexander Volkanovski and Yair Rodriguez against one other to unify the featherweight belt.
Following Volkanovski’s disastrous super-fight against UFC lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, Rodriguez fought Josh Emmett to secure his undisputed championship chance.
Mexico continues to dominate International Fight Week with flyweight champion Brandon Moreno defending his championship against Brazil’s Alexandre Pantoja, who has now completed his historic quadrilogy with Deiveson Figueiredo. Pantoja won a unanimous decision against Moreno in 2018, prompting Moreno’s temporary departure from the UFC.
