Costa is determined to face Chimaev and has expressed his confidence in defeating him.
Middleweight contender Paulo Costa has made it clear that he plans to “expose” undefeated fighter Khamzat Chimaev in their potential matchup at UFC 294 in October. Despite not yet being booked for the fight, Costa is determined to face Chimaev and has expressed his confidence in defeating him.
Costa, who is now sixth in the middleweight category, hasn’t competed since making his debut at UFC 278 in August of last year. He suffered consecutive losses to Israel Adesanya and Marvin Vettori but managed to bounce back with a unanimous decision victory over former champion Luke Rockhold.
Costa will face Ikram Aliskerov on the main card of UFC 291 in Salt Lake City, Utah. However, his focus seems to be on a potential future showdown with Chimaev, whom he considers a common opponent.
Chimaev, an undefeated welterweight contender with a record of 12-0, has also been absent from the Octagon since his co-headlining fight at UFC 279 in September of last year, where he secured a first-round D’Arce choke submission win over Kevin Holland. Rumors have circulated that Chimaev could potentially face former welterweight champion Kamaru Usman or middleweight contender Jared Cannonier at UFC 294 in October.
Costa, however, remains fixated on facing Chimaev and recently took to Twitter to taunt his potential opponent. In his tweet, Costa referred to Chimaev as a “little insecure weirdo” and confidently stated that he plans to expose him in Abu Dhabi.
Costa’s steadfastness in wanting to fight Chimaev raises the possibility that the fight will take place, even though it has not been formally publicized. Both fighters have impressive talents and the desire to make a statement in the middleweight category, which heightens the suspense around the prospective battle. Costa has a strong conviction that he can defeat Chimaev.
