Norma Dumont, a prominent fighter in the UFC women’s featherweight division, believes that removing the division would be a mistake for the organization. With former champion Amanda Nunes recently retiring, UFC President Dana White hinted at the potential retirement of the division. However, Dumont, who is set to face Chelsea Chandler at UFC on ESPN 49, expressed her disappointment and emphasized the value and potential the division still holds.

Dumont, who holds an impressive record of 9-2 in MMA, recognizes the significance of maintaining the women’s featherweight division within the UFC. She believes that discontinuing the division would result in a significant loss for the organization. Dumont aims to demonstrate her passion, dedication, and desire to be the face of the division, giving fans a reason to be excited about future fights in the weight class.

Dumont finds it unfortunate that UFC president Dana White stated that the 145-pound division, which made its debut in February 2017, would likely end with the retirement of former champion Amanda Nunes last month.

Norma Dumont expressed her belief that the UFC would suffer a significant loss if they chose not to continue with the women’s featherweight division. Speaking through an interpreter at the UFC on ESPN 49 media day, Dumont emphasized her eagerness to be the face of the division and give the UFC reasons to be excited about its future. She also highlighted the return of a former division champion later in the year as another reason for the UFC to reconsider their decision. Dumont urged the UFC to recognize the potential of the division by showcasing fighters like herself who can demonstrate its capabilities.

Dumont shared that she has been physically preparing for the potential removal of the featherweight division by focusing on transitioning to the bantamweight division. She mentioned that her recent weight cuts have been smooth and planned, with a reduction of around four pounds. Dumont has undertaken this preparation in anticipation of the possible elimination of the division, ensuring that she is ready to compete at bantamweight and pursue a title in that weight class if necessary.
