Jamahal Hill, the current UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, has unexpectedly stated that he will be giving up his championship due to a major Achilles injury. Hill made this choice after rupturing his Achilles tendon, which required surgery and a protracted recovery period. As a result, the light heavyweight division is left without a champion, and Hill’s recovery becomes the primary focus for the talented fighter.

Jamahal Hill shared the news with his fans on his YouTube channel, expressing his disappointment at not being able to defend his title against Jiri Prochazka, the former champion. Jamal Hill acknowledged that Prochazka had previously vacated the belt due to his own injury, ensuring the division could progress with an active champion. Hill, in a similar vein, made the decision to give up the belt, understanding the need to maintain the division’s momentum.

Hill focuses on recovery, assured title shot upon return

Having secured the light heavyweight title with an impressive victory over Glover Teixeira at UFC 283 in Brazil, Hill expressed his desire to retain the championship throughout his recovery. However, recognizing the necessity of focusing on his health and rehabilitation, he graciously accepted the situation. Hill thanked the UFC for their support and expressed his determination to fully recover and reclaim the title at his peak condition.

Despite Hill stepping away from the championship, UFC officials assured him that he would have an immediate opportunity to fight for the title once he recovers. This assurance provides Hill with the motivation and incentive to undergo a rigorous rehabilitation process, aiming to regain his status as the light heavyweight champion.
