Adam George Peaty was born in Uttoxeter, England, on December 28, 1994. He is a competitive swimmer from England who excels in breaststroke. He became the first male British swimmer to win the gold medal in the 100-meter breaststroke at the 2016 Summer Olympics. He successfully defended his title at the 2020 Summer Olympics in 2021, making history as the first British swimmer to do so. He has won the World Championship eight times, the European Championship sixteen times, and the Commonwealth Games on four occasions.

The youngest of four children, Peaty was born to Mark and Caroline Peaty. He went to Uttoxeter’s St Josephs Catholic Primary School, Cheadle’s Painsley Catholic College, and Derby College. Peaty began swimming at Dove Valley Swimming Club in Uttoxeter when he was nine years old, and by the age of twelve, he was winning races and setting club records. At the age of 14, a friend brought Peaty to the City of Derby Swimming Club, but Melanie Marshall, the club’s coach, and a former Olympian swimmer, was unimpressed with Peaty’s performance in the freestyle. However, when she saw him doing breaststroke, she realized that Peaty was born for it.

Peaty has shattered world records 14 times, becoming the first man to swim the 50-meter breaststroke in sub 26 seconds and the 100-meter breaststroke in under 58 and 57 seconds, respectively. He is the most successful British swimmer at a single World Championships and the first swimmer to ever win both sprint breaststroke events at the same World Championships.
