Young David Popovici breaks national record in the 100-meter Butterfly

Another record has been broken by Romanian swimming sensation David Popovici. At the 2023 Romanian Swimming Championships, he this time broke the country’s record in the 100-meter butterfly competition. He set another Romanian record on his own during the final day of the competition to wrap up his competition run. On Sunday, David Popovici took part in the 100-meter butterfly competition and won with a time of 52.30. Daniel Martin’s 2019 record of 52.35 seconds was slashed by .05 seconds by him.

When Martin set the record, he was only 18 years old. He hasn’t been able to swim under 52.98 since he broke the national record, though. Daniel Martin, a 21-year-old competitor, competed in the 100-meter butterfly at the 2023 Romanian Swimming Championships, where he placed second with a time of 53.19. The previous best time for David Popovici in the 100-meter butterfly competition was 58.18. He accomplished this personal best back in 2019. This week’s competition featured several ancillary events in which the Romanian swimming sensation also participated. He participated in his best event, the 100-meter freestyle, where he holds the world record, and finished in a time of 47.76. Other events in which David Popovici competed included the 50-meter butterfly, 50-meter freestyle, 100-meter backstroke, and 400-meter freestyle. He also took part in the 100-meter butterfly and 100-meter freestyle. The fifth day of the 2023 Romanian Swimming Championships featured several other intriguing performances by swimmers. Vlad Stancu, who won bronze in the 1500-meter freestyle event at the 2022 World Juniors, took part as well. By finishing at 15:22:45, he took first place in the competition. He fell short of his 15:05 national record. However, the time places him below the “B” standard for the world championships this summer.
