The Swimming Hall of Fame association located in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, has officially declared the name of the 2023 Hall of Fame, which includes Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps. Phelps retired from the Olympics after the Rio games of 2016 with 28 medals. Along with Phelps, his coach Bob and legendary Paralympic swimmer Trischa Zorn-Hudson will also be inducted. She is the most decorated Paralympian in history with 55 medals.

To qualify for Hall of Fame induction, a player should officially retire for four years or more. There can also be a consideration for players who have not officially retired and are above 30 years to be inducted into the Hall of Fame if they meet the required eligibility criteria. Besides Phelps, another Olympian, Missy Franklin, has also been inducted into the Hall of Fame this year. Franklin retired in 2018. She was just in high school when she won four golds and one bronze medal at the 2012 London Olympics, but she didn’t stop there. She further went ahead to break the female record of winning six golds at the 2013 Worlds. Injuries were her career obstacles, which forced her to retire early.

Michael Phelps is one of the best Olympians ever. Some might argue for Usain Bolt, Carl Lewis, or Nadia Comaneci. But the number of medals won by Phelps tells the whole story. Phelps has 23 gold medals, more than double that of his nearest rival. Phelps dominated the 2007 World Championship in Melbourne. He grabbed a gold medal in each of the seven events he participated in and set a world record in five of those. He received the Best Male U.S. Olympic Athlete ESPY Award in 2009.
