Shaun Murphy was born on 10 August 1982, he is a talented English professional snooker player renowned for winning the 2005 World Championship. Nicknamed “The Magician,” Murphy is admired for his flawless cue action and exceptional long potting skills. His journey in the snooker world began on the UK Tour in 1998, which was later renamed the Challenge Tour in 2000, serving as the second-level professional tour. During the 1997/1998 season, Murphy reached the runner-up position in the fourth event on the UK tour. In the following 2000/2001 season, he showcased his prowess by clinching victory in the third and fourth events on the Challenge Tour, securing the top spot on the Order of Merit rankings.

Shaun Murphy has had several clashes with Stephen Maguire, who also emerged as one of the 2000 Young Players of Distinction. During their 2004 Grand Prix match, an incident occurred where Maguire was docked the opening frame and this incident made Murphy famous. At the beginning of the first frame, Maguire requested permission from the referee to leave the arena and retrieve his forgotten chalk. In his absence, the referee and Murphy had a conversation, and later, tournament director Mike Ganley penalized Maguire a frame for not being ready to start at the scheduled time, which took him by surprise and left him disheartened.

Murphy refutes the notion that the frame deduction was a result of his conversation with the referee. Despite this incident, Maguire went on to win the match 5–2 and expressed his surprise at the unusual turn of events, stating that he had never witnessed anything like it before. Over the years, Murphy has grown into a brilliant player and has defeated many top-ranked players.
