Cowboys will face Warriors in the NRL matchup on August 19. The Cowboys’ prospects of catching Penrith for the minor premiership appear to be gone, so maintaining second place is now their top concern. A home final in Townsville awaits them if they can maintain their composure in the final three games. They are tied with the Sharks on 32 points but have a 71-point advantage in the points differential.

The Warriors have made some progress against quality competition over the past month, but the next two weeks will not get any easier as they take on the top two teams in the league. There will be a lot of positives to carry over to the following season if they can compete honorably against the Cowboys and Panthers and then end with a victory in front of the Mt Smart supporters in Round 25.

Cowboys’ sake Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow switches to the bench and Jamayne Taunoa-Brown moves to the 18th man spot as veteran winger Kyle Feldt makes his return after missing the previous two games due to a hamstring injury. Coen Hess has been moved to the bench and Jordan McLean is now beginning. The same 17 players for the Warriors that were so effective against the Bulldogs have been named by Stacey Jones. As he attempts to recover from a knee ailment, Chanel Harris-Tavita is listed as the 18th Man.

The Cowboys and Warriors both entered the competition in 1995, and since then, they have faced off 40 times, with 20 victories each. Their last two games have been settled by a single point, with the Cowboys winning 29-28 in Round 12 of last year thanks to a Val Holmes field goal with 41 seconds remaining, and the Warriors prevailing 25-24 in golden point at Redcliffe’s Moreton Daily Stadium in Round 5 of this year.
