The World Rowing Championships 2022 is scheduled to be held in Racice, Czech Republic from Sep 18 to 25, 2022. Built on the site of a former sand quarry, the Racice rowing course was constructed in 1986. The circuit has an eight-lane Albano system and can accommodate races up to 2000 meters in length. Besides the main race lanes, the course includes a separate 30 m wide ‘return lane’ from the finish line to the start line. The course had previously hosted the World Rowing U23 Championships 2021, World Rowing Junior Championships 2018, European Rowing Championships 2017, and so on.

In 1962, Lucerne, Switzerland, hosted the inaugural tournament. The competition was held every four years until 1974 when it became an annual event. After the international rowing season, the senior World Championships are conducted every year. World Champions are determined in six International Boat Classes for lightweight rowers and also 14 Olympic Boat Classes, with seven for men and seven for women. Para-rowers compete in nine boat classes, five of which are Paralympic boat classes.
