World Archery Calendar 2022 August: LIVE Streaming, When and Where to Watch, Schedule

The World Archery Federation (WA) is the organization which is in charge of regulating the sport of Archery. Its headquarters are in Lausanne, Switzerland. It is recognized by the International Olympic Committee (IOC). It comprises 159 national federations and other archery groups. On September 4, 1931, French Fédération Internationale de Tir à l’Arc (former name of World Archery Federation) was established in Lwow, Poland. France, Czechoslovakia, Sweden, Poland, the United States, Hungary, and Italy were its seven founding members.

The goals of the group were to revive archery in the Olympic Games and establish regular archery competitions (the sport had not been featured since 1920). In the Summer Olympics in 1972, FITA finally succeeded in bringing back archery to the Olympic programme. A significant majority of the FITA Congress opted to change the name from FITA to the World Archery Federation, or WA, commemorating the group’s 80th anniversary in July 2011.
