The Women’s Lawn Bowls squad created history as they qualified for the Finals of the event by surprising New Zealand with a 16-13 defeat in the Semi-final. The team was trailing 1-6 after the fourth end, but made a stunning comeback with a 7-6 lead and won against the second-ranked team. Earlier, the team comprising Lovely Choubey, Pinki, Nayanmoni Saikia and Rupa Rani had booked a spot for India in the Semis after defeating Norfolk Island 17-9 in the Quarterfinal match.

The quartet will now face South Africa in the Gold medal match on August 2, 2022.  This will be India’s first appearance in the finals of the Women’s fours event in Lawn Bowls. With this, the quartet has ensured India a medal in the Commonwealth Games 2022.

Lawn Bowls, popularly known as Bowls is a sport which requires the spherical ball on the lawn to be rolled in such a manner that the ball reaches as close to the jack as possible. The sport is popular and played in Commonwealth nations but is unknown to many.
