Women’s 400m World champion Salwa Eid Naser is set to miss the Tokyo Olympics 2020 starting on July 23 after being handed a two year ban by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).

The Bahraini was provisionally suspended in June last year for breaking the rules of her availability to undergo anti-doping tests.

However Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) disciplinary tribunal had ruled in October that Naser hadn’t violated the anti-doping rules. But then CAS overturned the decision.

Salwa Eid Naser is a Nigerian-born athlete who represents Bahrain in the international stage. She won the 400m title in the 2019 World Athletics Championship held in Doha with the third best timing in history.

She clocked a timing of 48.14 sec which is bettered by only Martin Koch of East Germany and Jarmila Kratochilova of Czech Republic who competed in the 1980’s.

The two year ban begins on June 30 and will continue till early 2023. Therefore she will miss the Tokyo Olympics and World Athletics championship beginning in Oregon next year.

Meanwhile she will credit for time served during the provisional suspension from June 4 to October 4 last year. And all results achieved by the 2017 World Championship silver medalist from November 25 2019 will be disqualified.

She had missed three anti-doping tests in the span of a year and escaped a provisional ban earlier.
