On the last day of the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) Trampoline Gymnastics World Championships 2022, Great Britain defeated the United States in a tie break in the team all-around event as competition ended in Sofia, Bulgaria. With this, Britain athletes’ concluded a successful campaign at the World Championships 2022, winning a total of eight medals, out of which three were gold.
Hikaru Mori, on the other hand, was the undisputed star on the last day. The Japanese began the day with a win in the synchronised event alongside Uyama Megu. Then, the 23-year-old Mori successfully defended the individual title she had won in 2019 with an outstanding routine that even earned praise from Bryony Page of Great Britain. Hu Yicheng of the People’s Republic of China, who won gold in the synchronised event previous year, won her first individual world championship medal with a score of 55.810 for bronze. Dylan Schmidt, a bronze medalist at Tokyo 2020, kept his composure to win the men’s individual world title. The 25-year-old recorded one of his best performances to earn a massive score of 60.720.
On the penultimate day, China’s Cao Yunzhu, Zhu Xueying, and Hu Yicheng claimed the women’s trampoline team final by obtaining the highest possible score. In their separate groups, all three gymnasts earned a maximum of five points, as a result of which China dominated the event by winning with a total of 15 points, with Zhu receiving the top score with 56.520.
