Tokyo Olympics: Simranjeet Kaur loses 5-0 against Seesondee in Women's Lightweight Round of 16

Indian boxer Simranjit Kaur ended her Tokyo Olympics journey after losing to Seesondee of Thailand in the women’s 60kg round

In the Women’s Lightweight Round of 16 at the Tokyo Olympics, Indian boxer, Simranjeet Kaur lost 5-0 to Thailand’s Seesondee.

The match started with Kaur going all out on her attacks. A left-hand jab from Simranjit, followed by a left-hand, right-hand combination. It was indeed a good start from India. However, a left-right combo from Seesondee and then maintained her distance. Simranjit attempted a left jab, Seesondee pulled back, maintaining distance. Seesondee hits a left-punch but was well countered by Indian. Seesondee takes Round 1 by unanimous decision.

Simranjit Kaur went on a full attack mode, however, she was caught by three left-handed shots. Simranjit looked like she was in trouble. The second round for Simranjit was a little disappointing. She was been beaten at speed by a Thai boxer. Seesondee takes Round 2 by unanimous decision.

Now, if Kaur had to keep her grip on the game, she had to win the round or she would face an exit here. She had to knock down her opponent to reach the next round. With a left jab on Simran’s face, the Thai boxer doesn’t look like she is any hurry. The Thai boxer just needs to survive here. Simranjit looked tired out and was waiting for the inevitable. Simranjit’s road at The Tokyo Olympics has now come to an end.

The Tokyo Olympics, which was delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, is now up and running. The Games have not been without their share of controversies, however.

The event is happening despite plenty of protests from the Japanese people against it. And the angst is not without reason. Tokyo is currently in a state of emergency due to a rise in COVID cases.

The Games will, by and large, be played out in the absence of fans, always a major psychological blow to athletes.

The Games had begun on July 23 2021, after being delayed by a year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. There’s also been a number of cases reported in the Olympic village itself.
