Indian sailors KC Ganapathy and Varun Thakkar seem to have a tough day at the Tokyo Olympics. Both the sailors struggled in the 49er (two-person skiff boat) on Wednesday.

At the Enoshima Yacht Harbour, the Indian duo could just manage to bag the 18th spot among the 19 competing teams. This was their overall standings after they competed in four qualifying races.

The first three rounds were held on Wednesday, and the players finished 18th there. In the three races, they were placed at the 18th, 17th, and 19th spot, respectively, and failed to make any progress in the rankings. They have accumulated a total of 72 points in the four races so far.

The 2017 world champion pair of Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell of Great Britain lead the standings with 15 total points while Spain’s Diego Botin and Iago Lopez Marra are a close second with 13 points to their name.

The top 10 after 12 qualifying races will make it to the medal round at Tokyo 2020.

On Day 4 of the Summer Games in Tokyo, Nethra battled in Race 6 of the women’s laser radial one-person dinghy. Meanwhile, Sarvanan raced in the 5th round of the men’s laser one-person dinghy. With good finishes in the initial rounds, both of them were expected to up the ante and deliver a strong all-around result. However, the success streak for Nethra came crashing down in the 4th, 5th and 6th race where she finished in the 31-40 positions bracket.

On the other hand, Vishnu Sarvanan has been fairly consistent with his performance. In the initial round he finished 14th. The Round 2 race was postponed. He still managed to be in the top 25 bracket achieving 20th, 24th, 23d and now 22nd positive in the respective races.
