Indian rowers Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh finished sixth in their semi-final race of the Tokyo Olympics. As a result, the duo has failed to make it to the men’s lightweight double sculls at the Tokyo Olympics.

At the Sea Forest Waterway, the Indian scullers clocked 6:24.41 and finished at the bottom of the table in the six-boat race.

World champions Fintan McCarthy and Paul O’donovan of Ireland clocked a new world best time of 6:05.33 to win the race. Italy’s Stefano Oppo and Pietro Ruta finished second in 6:07.70. Belgium’s Niels van Zandweghe and Tim Brys are at the third spot with a timing of 6:13.07.

The three teams will move into Final ‘A’, the medal round, on Thursday.

The Indian scullers began well and stayed in contention for a top-three finish in the initial segment of the race. But as the race progressed, Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh struggled and had a tough time maintaining pace with their competition. The Indian duo will compete in Final ‘B’ on Thursday to determine their ranking at the Tokyo Olympics.

Arjun Lal Jat and Arvind Singh have had a lot of ups and downs at the Tokyo Olympics so far. In their heats, while they clocked 6:40.33, the performance could only help them finish fifth. In the repechage, though the Indians were much slower, crossing the finish line in 6:51.36, however, it was enough to land them the third-place place and qualify for the semis.
