Tokyo Olympics 2020 highlights: Mirabai Chanu won a silver medal in weightlifting but in hockey, the Indian women's team suffered a heavy loss to the Netherlands.

It was a mixed day for India on Day 1 as the Tokyo Olympics 2020 was live and finally got underway in earnest. Weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won India’s first medal of the day when she won a silver medal in the women’s 49kg category in weightlifting. However, the rest of the day was a mixed bag. India could have done better in certain events but ended up falling short. This was evident in the beginning of the Day when the women’s 10m air rifle shooters from India got knocked out before the final. The archery mixed team also suffered some disappointment. However, Chanu’s medal made up for that in a big way.
