Day 13 saw plenty of events where India could have added to their Tokyo Olympics 2020 medal tally. The day began with early action for Indian golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar, with the former delivering a fine performance. The Indian men’s hockey team was next seen in action, with the team beating Germany 5-4 to win the bronze medal and secure a medal after 41 years. Wrestler Anshu Malik was eliminated. Vinesh Phogat, one of India’s best bets for a medal, started her campaign on a high before being eliminated later on. Wrestler Ravi Kumar Dahiya settled for a silver following a defeat in the final of the men’s freestyle 57kg event. Deepak Punia suffered a defeat in the final few seconds of his bronze medal encounter, which saw the wrestler lose out on a medal. (Tokyo 2020 full coverage)

The highlight of Day 12 was Dahiya. On Wednesday, he staged a dramatic comeback against Kazakhstan’s Nurislam Sanayev. Thus, he made his way to the men’s freestyle 57kg wrestling final.

Dahiya becomes only the second Indian wrestler to enter the finals in an edition of the Olympics.

“It feels like Diwali today. He has made Haryana, our village Nahri & the nation proud. Ravi’s win is India’s win. It’s indeed a big deal to come so far. History will be scripted tomorrow, he will clinch a gold medal for us,” said his father Rakesh in an interaction with ANI.

Dahiya was down 2-9 at one point but did not give up. He pulled off a stunning comeback to assure India of another silver in a worst-case scenario.

The other highlight of the day saw boxer Lovlina Borgohain clinch a boxing bronze medal.
