Purnima will hope to add another weightlifting medal to India’s tally as she features in Women’s 87+ kg class. The weightlifter qualified for the CWG 2022 on account of gold medal victory at the Commonwealth Championships. She lifted 229 kg (102 kg in Snatch & 127 kg in Clean & Jerk) in the event that took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. She also created eight national records on her quest for Gold.

In Gold Coast 2018, Purnima finished sixth which was also her first major international event. She clinched her first gold medal in Weightlifting in Youth Junior Nationals 2015-16. Hailing from Kashi in Varanasi, Purnima took up Gymnastics at the age of ten but switched to Powerlifting. As powerlifting wasn’t popular in the school level, it became difficult to pursue it professionally. She began her journey as a weightlifter when she joined the Health Improvement Association in 2013.
