Para Shooting World Championships 2022: LIVE Streaming, When and Where To Watch, Schedule, Indian Contingent

The World Championships 2022 which is the largest shooting para sport competition of the year will be held in Al Ain, an oasis city in the United Arab Emirates (UAE), from November 6 to November 17, 2022. The competition will feature 271 athletes, including Paralympic champions. Athletes from 54 nations will compete in 27 medal events at the eighth edition of the World Championships. while 31 qualifying spots for Paris 2024 will be up for grabs in the United Arab Emirates.

After being held in Seoul in 2002 and Cheongju in 2018 (both in South Korea), this will be the third event in Asia and the first in the Middle East. The competition program will contain 27 medal categories, including the Para trap and visually impaired (VI) shooting events for the second time in a World Championships program. The first was when the World Championships were last time in Sydney in 2019.

The UAE did not win a medal at the last Worlds in Sydney, but they will have high hopes as they are the hosts this time.  The group will be led by Abdulla Sultan Alaryani, a two-time Paralympic champion who was the champion in the R7 – men’s 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 at the 2020 Paralympic Games in Tokyo. Last edition’s toppers, Ukraine will bank on their pistol shooters Oleksii Denysiuk and Iryna Liakhu who will be keen to defend their crowns in Al Ain.

Para Shooting World Championships 2022: Indian Contingent

Avani Lekhara and Manish Narwal, two youngsters who won gold at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games, will lead India’s 15-person delegation in Al Ain. Avani will compete for her first World Championship title in Al Ain 2022 in her third World Championship appearance. Her best result so far was a fourth place in the R8 – 50m rifle 3 positions SH1 at Sydney 2019. Paralympic medalist Singhraj Adhana and experienced Rahul Jakhar will also be a part of the championship.
