Keith Joseph, the President of the Caribbean Association of National Olympic Committees (CANOC), has stated that cricket should be a part of the sports program of the Los Angeles 2028 (LA28) Olympic Games. The International Cricket Council (ICC) and Cricket West Indies (CWI) drive for inclusion in the forthcoming event has received formal support from Joseph, who claims that the T20 World Cup in 2024, which will be held in the West Indies, will “set the foundation” for cricket’s return to the Olympic Games. He highlighted the significant effects that the sport’s presence in the Olympics will have on the growth of sport, youth, and peaceful communities in the area.

Keith Joseph, the President of the Caribbean Olympic Committee, claims that both men and women are interested in the T20 format in particular. The format is suitable for multi-sport Games focused on innovation, entertainment, and widespread engagement, he continued, because it is small, entertaining, and delivers immediate results in a manageably short amount of time. According to Joseph, cricket’s inclusion in the Olympic Games will bring in more than a billion cricket enthusiasts worldwide and create new sporting and commercial possibilities. According to him, it will significantly widen the scope of Olympic ideals and lift new nations to the medal podium.

West Indies cricket team’s contribution in bringing Islands together

Although Caribbean nations played as individual teams in the Commonwealth Games 2022, only Barbados had previously competed in women’s T20 cricket. Joseph did, however, recognize the contribution made over time by the West Indies cricket team to bringing the Islands together. According to him, the squad represents everyone’s objectives, hopes, and desires. He also said that it is one of the best examples of regional unity, cooperation, and cohesiveness shown via sport anywhere in the globe.

Joseph also highlighted the talent generated by the Islands. He stated that the area has produced outstanding players in all areas of the game who have risen to the top of the sport. They have proven themselves to be extraordinarily talented and capable of accomplishing massive success against other highly respectable world-class opponents. Many people feel that the Caribbean Olympic Committee’s campaign to have cricket featured in the Los Angeles 2028 Olympics will not only boost the sport but also encourage youth development and peaceful communities. Cricket’s inclusion in the Olympics presents a chance to bring attention to the remarkable talent of the Caribbean and maintain the sport’s ability to unify the area.
